Description: How we tell a story matters because stories are how we define ourselves. Forged by Fire is a collection of five stories about ethnic groups that have faced or are facing injustice, persecution and/or marginalization in the United States. These stories, however, are sprinkled with hope as evidenced by the reaction and action of United Methodist Church clergy and members on behalf of those groups. The stories focus on:
• Japanese-American’s internment during World War II
• Cherokee’s forced removal and the Trail of Tears
• African-American’s passage to freedom via the Underground Railroad
• Hispanic/Latino struggles on the United States/Mexican border
• Pacific Islander’s immigration to the United States
In listening to the stories, viewers will be inspired and educated to bring about change wherever and however injustice and persecution exists. A leader’s guide is included in the DVD; it’s also available by clicking the Study Guides link on the EcuFilm home page (www.ecufilm.org). Produced by General Board of Church & Society.

Per Carol at Edmonds UMC this video was used with adults aged 60+ and they felt it did not present new information or capture interest of viewers very well. May 2010.
