Description: The fifth installment of the Faith & Doubt sermon series by Rev. John Ortberg, Menlo Park Presbyterian Church presented June 17, 2007. The entire worship service is included on the DVD with the sermon titled, "The Gift of Uncertainty". What happens when doubt goes bad and it breaks our ability to trust? Ortberg is joined in this service by Scott Scruggs, who works with college students and young adults at Menlo Park PC. Using the Genesis story of creation and the fall of man, Scruggs states that we know Adam and Eve choose to trust the Serpent and falling to doubt about God's character instead of trusting in God, they risk their lives and move away from God toward self-reliance. People today do this all the time as our doubts spin us out of control. Ortberg lists three categories about doubt gone bad. 1. Skepticism, 2. Cynicism, and 3. Unbelief. Stories of Doubting Thomas (John) and Pilate (Matthew) are also included.
Age Groups: Young Adult; Adult (30-55); Adult (55+)
