Description: Angy Rivera has two crucial secrets in her life. The first is that she is an undocumented child who has lived with her mother and siblings in New York City for 19 years. That secret is a constant source of fear: If her immigration status is discovered, she could be deported and her family shattered.

The second secret is more tragic: Between the ages of 4 and 8, Rivera has been sexually abused by her stepfather, a secret she eventually reveals and which, in the strange world of immigration law, helps her gain the visa she has always desired. An artist, she tells the story of her experiences through her powerful drawings.

Director Mikaela Shwer met Rivera, now 24, while the young woman was still undocumented. After the two developed a friendship, Shwer began filming Rivera's quest to help others living in immigration's "shadows" and to gain a visa for herself. The result is Shwer's first full-length documentary, an effective story about the suffering of real people trying to survive in the midst of several kinds of struggles.
