Description: This study is based on Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" and explores the world of Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and the Cratchits, with an eye to Christian faith. Along the way we will meet the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet To Come and learn about living with and for others in a world blessed by Jesus.
The four 8-12 minute segments are
1) Bah! Humbug! - Scrooge believes you reap what you sow; a life driven by money. But we hear the parable of the landowner who hires the laborers and pays them all equally no matter when they came to gather the harvest. The wage is not the reward but the invitation to come into the kingdom.
2) The Remembrance of Christmas Past - What is your earliest memory? The ghost of Christmas Past helps Scrooge remember the happiness of the past. Christmas is a season for the senses; the taste and smell of our favorite foods, the sound of our favorite Christmas carols.
3) The Life of Christmas Present - The ghost of Christmas Present reminds us of God's great abundance towards us, especially the gift of His son Jesus. So we are encouraged to be abundant givers. Why would God send the angels to the shepherds? We are called to be in ministry with the poor. Christmas is always a story that is new and present.
4) The Hope of Christmas Future - Darkness is an important part of the Christmas as well as the Christian story. Faith does not protect us from darkness, but we are to be a light in the darkness. Scrooge is redeemed just as we are redeemed by the gift of Jesus.
5) A bonus feature is an interview with Scrooge.
