Description: Pastor Jorge Acevedo leads us on a 5 week Advent journey to discover how, where, and why we are sent. Joining him on the journey are four young clergy who challenge us through story, art and Bible study. Each of our presenters tell a personal story of how Jesus became "real" to them at Christmas. We discover how and why we too are being sent into the world. The five sessions are
1) Jesus Reconciles - Do you have a special Christmas story? Pastor Jacob Armstrong tells his story of visiting the Waffle House with his girls early one morning and experiences those people who work the night shift, just like the shepherds. When we do things out of the ordinary we can expect to experience things we would normally not. Why are we hesitant to be sent? - we lose our sense of adventure and fear the unknown.
2) Jesus Sets Us Free - Lanecia Rouse tells the story of Miss Ruby who sees Jesus in everyone, especially the homeless. Why do we miss the imprint of God in all persons? - Maybe we become too busy and we are not tuned in to the Holy Spirit.
3) Jesus Is God With Us - Justin LaRosa tells the story of how his son was born prematurely at Christmas and how Christians became God presence with him and his family.
4)Jesus Brings New Life - Rachel Billups receives an unwanted gift of a hand knitted tree skirt and comes to understand that God gives us unexpected gifts that can bring new understanding and new life.
5) Jesus Changes Everything - Jorge Acevedo tells how he came to understand that the life of every person is not an accident, but a miracle, just like Jesus' birth was a miracle. Not only was Jesus "sent", but we are all called to be "sent" even though we would prefer to "stay." We are called to be messengers of hope and our movement has purpose.
